Our Educational Objective

The Blue Ridge Autism and Achievement Center employs research based teaching techniques such as curriculum proven to be effective for learning disabilities and applied behavioral analysis (ABA). This method is based on the research-based, scientific principles of operant conditioning to build socially useful skills and reduce inappropriate behavior. These behaviors have been shown, in extensive research, to change in response to a carefully programmed, positive interaction with the environment.

It is the stated objective of BRAAC to have each student prepared, through this method, for successful inclusion into mainstream education. BRAAC supports inclusion as appropriate for each individual.

Each student at BRAAC will be evaluated as to his or her readiness for inclusion by a careful examination of data from the student’s program notebook as it relates to the following four areas: Language Skills, General Behavior, Social Skills, and Academic Skills.

The choice for inclusion and the specific manner of inclusion will be done on a case-by-case basis, with careful attention being paid to two critical questions:

     1. Will this student derive educational benefit from an inclusive environment?
     2. What will this student learn while in an inclusive environment?
